Lorne has been teaching Western science and studying Eastern science, martial arts, meditation and acupuncture since the 1970’s. He is a published author of a teachers’ guide to IB Environmental Systems and many research articles on best practice. His next book entitled SyRF Systems, The Synergetic Redesigning of Fitness, describes an evolutionary health and fitness system and will be available in October 2006. Lorne has created many integrated curricular units and is presently an IB teacher training workshop leader for Biology, Environmental Systems and CAS, a senior IB examiner and the Director of CAS at Upper Canada College in Toronto.

Synergetics of Science and Spirituality

(Click here to see selected slides from this presentation)

A presentation on Action Research in the Practical Integration of TOK, CAS and Group 4. A dynamic, interactive and hands-on presentation and demonstration. Also available as a more in-depth workshop that would be of interest to all students and teachers of TOK, CAS, Group 4 Sciences, Group 1 and 2 Languages, Math and World Cultures

Synergetic Geometry

A presentation or more in-depth hands-on workshop suitable for integrating Art, Science, Math and sustainability programs. It investigates systems and structures found in nature and human society and makes a case for realigning our system to become more functional, adaptable and sustainable.

R. Buckminster Fuller-Ideas, Innovations and Inspiration

An inspirational and motivational presentation for students and adults on the joy of discovery, creativity and a practical expression of integrity. An interactive presentation on the life and work of this scientist, inventor, architect, engineer, mathematician, poet and cosmologist.

Dynamic Synergetic Meditation

A presentation or longer workshop that teaches this integrative moving meditation technique for stress transformation, improved focus, endurance, strength, and improved sport specific skills. Excellent for preparation for IB courses and exams and for individual or team sports and for teachers or anyone else to help transform stress.

CIS ME

A presentation or longer workshop that teaches a simple, mindful eating strategy that provides balanced energy and nutrition throughout the day and naturally helps to achieve a healthy weight.

SyRF Systems

A 1-3 day workshop that teaches a total mind and body health and fitness system that integrates the most ancient science from the East with the most recent science from the West. Suitable for students, teachers, parents and administrators.

Synergetics of Science and Community Service (CAS)

A presentation on the structural and functional integrity of Community Service (CAS) from a scientific and mathematical perspective that demonstrates that the expressions “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” and “you don’t know how much you’ve got until you start giving it away” can be shown to be valid. Intriguing insight into the science of service.

Sustainable Communities

A hands-on workshop where participants learn, experiment and then design a sustainable community. Excellent team building experience for administrators and teachers and for teaching the integrative ecological principles for Science, Geography, Math, Economics students.

Synergy Speak

A presentation on synergy and language and its effects on thought and understanding. This presentation demonstrates areas of integration between Science and Group 1 and 2.

Whole Systems Thinking

This presentation or more in-depth practical workshop will investigate the effective use of whole systems and general principle thinking, the strength and use of modelling and creative, integrated, cross-curricular design.
